South West Slopes Training Team EOI

Volunteer Assistant, Trainer and/or Assessor Expression of Interest

The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) South West Slopes Training Team is seeking dedicated volunteers to join our team in various roles, including Assistant, Trainer, or Assessor. These positions play a crucial part in supporting the development and delivery of high-quality training programs that ensure our members are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to respond effectively in the event of emergencies.

Role Descriptions:

Assistant: Support Trainers and Assessors in the delivery of training sessions, manage resources, assist with logistical needs, and ensure smooth operations during training activities.


Trainer: Lead and facilitate training sessions, imparting knowledge and practical skills to RFS members to enhance their firefighting, leadership, and safety capabilities.


Assessor: Evaluate participants’ skills and competencies through structured assessments, ensuring that they meet the required standards and are equipped to respond effectively in the field.


Key Responsibilities:

  •  Deliver and support planning, coordination, and delivery of training activities in line with RFS policies and training frameworks.
  • Ensure a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment for all participants.
  • Collaborate with fellow team members to maintain and improve the overall effectiveness of the training team.
  • Provide constructive feedback to support skill development and confidence in operational scenarios.

Key Strengths:

  • Relevant experience in operational roles (desirable).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse range of people.
  • Willingness to share knowledge and experience with others.
  • A passion for developing skills in others.
  • Previous experience in training and assessment (desirable but not mandatory).
  • Ability to attend agreed upon training sessions, including weekends, and travel within the South West Slopes Zone.
